Chamber music by Dmitri Shostakovich

Today 37 years ago by Dmitri Shostakovich died one of the most important Russian composers of the 20th Century. His symphonies, his concertos, especially his chamber music is now the core repertoire of the 20th Century.

Instead of many words I want to put today two key works of his chamber music to the heart, which you can download for free (if you they are not already in the closet anyway you know what I would strongly advise you).

String Quartet no. 8 in C minor, Opus 110, dedicated to the "victims of fascism and war" of 1960

Sonata for Viola and Piano, Op 147 of 1975 (his last work)

(This pay-what-you-want download it also finds even the Sonata for viola (or clarinet) and piano, opus 120/1 (1894) by Johannes Brahms and the Sonata for flute, viola and harp (1915 ) by Claude Debussy.)
